Out and about - Meeting living dinosaurs

Updated: Jan 23, 2021

Kids will do anything to get out of certain tasks and mine is no exception. Covid-19 is still a very persistent threat in the air and we are not as active as we used to be. Examination prep and cabin fever just became too much and with a quick browse around, we found the perfect escape.

After a call to make a reservation (very important), we bundled into my car late morning and hit the road to Danger Point just outside Gansbaai, about an hours' drive from Caledon where we live.

Arriving at Afrikanos we are met with the friendliest of staff (accommodating us with no fuss even though we were early), got spoiled with great food and beer from a local brewery down the road in Standford. My thirteen year old recons his chocolate milkshake is one of the best that he has had. After our late lunch we are invited to meet the living dinos.

Not long and Logan (the thirteen year old) is in gear, in the water and meets them just a little closer. There are safety precautions and the experience itself is one that he will long remember. Swimming along side a Nile crocodile and meeting Skollie face to face made his year. We struggled to get him out the water after an hour, while he marvelled and connected with these amazing beasts. Below in the underwater view cave I myself stood in awe and wonder looking at the crocs effortlessly moving in the water and gawking at how beautiful and majestic these animals really are.

Josef our guide was not just friendly and professional, but knowledgeable about these crocodiles. He lovingly talks about them and excitedly answers any questions one has..

This was truly a quick spur of the moment trip to remember for a while and will sustain us for a bit, stranded back in our home as we try and hide from this pandemic.

We would like to thank Afrikanos for their hospitality and service. A truly memorable experience that is highly recommended! You guys are great!

We have started 2022 off with a bang in our vlogs and from all the vlogs we have shot over the last year I honestly must say this one will be the most memorable. Genadendal is an extraordinary little
